Berkeley: Herbivore – The Earthly Grill

When M&M (my brother and his gf) decided to go vegetarian, we’re more conscious about the places we take them to eat when they’re in town. I suggested Herbivore because it’s vegan and the “chicken” they use is incredibly yummy. I don’t mind eating vegetarian or even vegan at times, especially if the focus is on fresh ingredients and heavy robust flavors. Just a quick dinner with family, fast/friendly service in a no-fuss good food kinda joint in downtown Berkeley. Of course I wish I would’ve had more pictures but I suspect my family gets tired of me snapping pictures of everything we eat, everywhere we eat. Well, it’s more than a suspicion, they usually just say it out right. The jig is up! šŸ˜‰

Housemade Ginger Ale ($3.50):
fresh ginger, lime and lemon juice, agave nectar and sparkling water

Too heavy on the limes and not enough ginger for me but still refreshing.

Shawarma ($8.95):
grilled “chicken” chunks with avocados and potatoes grilled in lemon-garlic sauce with seasoned onions, tomatoes, hummus, hot sauce, pickles and tahini in a whole wheat lavash

Totally yummy! The star was definitely the side salad! I inhaled it before even taking a bit of the wrap, the fresh raw beets gave such an earthy bite to this otherwise simple salad. I was tempted to ask for a second serving of salad. The wrap was large and full of flavor, I ended up eating half with the intentions of saving the rest for lunch the next day. Except when midnight came around and I’m raiding my fridge I ended up finishing it, tastes just as yummy cold!

Seasoned Potatoes ($4.50):
roasted with olive oil and rosemary

I ordered it because we all know I’m a potato whore. I should have gotten another order because everyone else enjoyed it also! Crispy on the outside and fluffy and tender on the inside.
